Emmanuel is the tenth born of the ten children in his family having five brothers and four sisters. Despite the fact that he stays with both his parents, he often lacks most of the basic necessities. They are peasants who grow a few crops using hand tools. His father is old so it is hard for him to do heavy work and the fact that they are many kids in the family worsens the situation. Most of Emmanuel's siblings dropped out of school due to lack of tuition and scholastic materials. He is also about to suffer the same fate if his education isn't supported. Emmanuel is still in kindergarten but his parents find difficulty in paying for his tuition.
