Harriet is the fourth born of the five children in her family having two brothers and two sisters. All her suffering and misery started after the separation of her parents. The father abandoned them, got another wife with whom he has children that he only cares about. Harriet and her siblings remained with their mother who is a peasant; she grows a few crops. When the crops are ready for harvest, she harvests them, reserves some for food and sells off some to earn a little money to help her meet other childrens basic necessities like clothing, tuition, medication and others. Its always challenging to her before harvest time because there is usually nothing to sell hence no income earned. She finds most difficulty in paying for her childrens tuition yet education is the best gift she could ever give them.
