Joan is the first born of the four children in her family having two sisters and one brother.  Her parents separated when she was still at a very tender age.  She and her siblings remained with their poor and unemployed mother.  She tried looking for a job but it is of recent that she found a very low paying one.  Once in a while, the father gives a helping hand in providing for Joan’s basic necessities.  Lack of sufficient household income means that Joan’s education has constantly been interrupted.  Not only is Joan’s irregularity at school a worry, but also lack of clothing, food and medication.
