Joyce is the third born in a family of four children; one boy and three girls. She and her siblings were taken in by their aunt because their parents couldn't afford to provide for their basic necessities. The father doesn't have a permanent job and the mother is a teacher so the money earned is insufficient to provide for the family. Joyce loves school so much and she also has a passion for music as she is one of the children in the Imani Milele choir.
