Juma is born in a family of ten children; six boys and four girls him being the ninth born. His father was food poisoned and he died when Juma was still at a very tender age and this affected him so much. He and his siblings remained with their mother who finds such a hard time in catering for the family necessities. By the time the father died, he was still constructing a small house for his family so now Juma and his entire family stay in an incomplete house. The mother is unemployed so getting money to complete the house is quite impossible for her. Paying for the childrens tuition and providing daily meals for them are some of the other challenges she faces. Her in-laws sometimes intervene and help to cater for some of the family needs. Juma often lacks scholastic materials and tuition so he is often sent back home. He studies under a number of challenges but he always emerges as the best student in his class.
