Martinah is the second born in her family of three children. She has two brothers. Her parents separated when Martinah’s mother was one month pregnant with her third child. She was asked to abort but she refused so Martinah’s father abandoned the family. The mother is a casual laborer with no stable job so providing for most of her children’s basic needs is very challenging to her. Martinah and her siblings often miss school due to lack of tuition and school supplies. Martinah is a smart and hardworking girl who always helps her mother with household chores like sweeping around the house. Martinah’s mom’s desire is to see her children succeed in life.
