She is fourth born and the only sister to three brothers. Ruth's dad died in 2005 and In 2011, her mother chose to abandon Ruth and her siblings. Ruth’s auntie took in Ruth and her brother Dick while the other siblings were taken by their uncle.  Ruth’s auntie is a housewife who struggles to take care of Ruth and her brother in addition to her own children.
