Shafik is the fifth born in a family of four girls and one boy.  He and his siblings stay with both their parents who are peasants who grow a few food crops on a small piece of land which they rent mainly for food. The prolonged draught has caused famine in the area and this has led the family to go without some meals sometimes. There is a problem of water scarcity in the area and accessing medical care is also a big problem. The health center is about 8 miles away from home. Shafik’s parents have challenges in paying for the needs of the children more especially tuition and school supplies. They usually pay for the children in higher grades first so Shafik lacks tuition most of the time. Your decision to support Shafik in school will enable him to attend school and live a better life in future.
