Stephen is the second born of the seven children in his family having four sisters and two brothers.  He used to stay with his parents but they were so poor to the extent that they couldn’t provide for most of his essential necessities a child requires before growing up.  The grandmother decided to take him in to see to it that her grandchild goes through school because she believes that that’s the only way he can attain a bright future.  It always breaks her heart to see him when he is sent back home from school for tuition when she fails to pay it.  Her dream is to see him complete school but it may all be in vain because she finds much difficulty in paying his tuition.  She is a peasant who sells off the harvest from the few crops she grows in order to earn money but it is always little.
