Maria is the second born in a family of three children. She has two brothers and no sister. Maria lives with her grandparents who offered to look after her and her siblings when their mother was sick with HIV. Their father chose to abandon the family when he learnt that his wife was HIV positive. Her grandparents are unemployed and this makes it hard for them to provide most of Maria’s basic needs especially clothing, medication, tuition and school supplies. Maria’s future only can be secured through education.
